Welcome to Chas’ HotBooks!
We are pleased to announce a new edition of Ilene Carpenter’s two books about American Indian children — Children of the Cherokee and Children of the Desert People. These books were written during and soon after her sabbatical year in 1970-1971. She spent most of that year living on reservations across the United States, learning first-hand about life on those reservations and developing friendships. These books are used in classrooms and homes to show today’s children a slice of family and community life for children on two reservations — one in North Carolina and one in Arizona. Check them out!
Whatever else you do, get a copy of Chas’ new collection, The Turnip Mercedes and Other Tasty Tales so you, too, can spend happy hours laughing even as some of the tales set you to re-thinking what may have been truths in your life or your surroundings. I keep picking it up to read “just one story this time.” Don’t bet on reading just one, though.
Now, back to my usual bit:
Chas’ HotBooks is a small, growing West Coast book publisher of Helpful, Out-of-the-ordinary, Thought-provoking BOOKS and more. Chas’ popular titles include Sizzling Spells: how to make any man want to talk to you, a frivolous look at deep truths about relationships; Black Hole: unexpected tool for joyous living, an intimate portrait of a mother’s grief, in which she shares insights from 16 years of outliving her son John; On Shifting Sands, a gathering of poetry from times of change; and Lessons to Share: workbook for a healthy family, which spawned the long-popular eLessons mailing list we plan to bring back this year after its break. Limitless Internetworking — One Person at a Time is available — so far, only as an e-book. Chas’ small but potent (and out of print) Limitless Networking earned her a name among business folks on the Net in the early years of our publishing venture. We like this revised book — also small and a powerful tool — as an accessory to anyone who wants to remember the people in the businesses they work with. Never one to waste words, Chas has condensed the nuts and bolts of networking with heart into this book no one in business should be without. As part of our 2009 site redesign, we have removed some pages while we sort out how they should look for the new year. We are woefully behind on Places We Love. Expect additions to that page as we have time to add more sites that make us smile, bring us respite, or in other ways add to our joy in life. Having her own publishing company has allowed Chas a great deal of flexibility in having her books published in a timely manner, and also helps her stay in touch with her readers. However, it’s been a time-consuming proposition. We are gradually getting out of the book-printing and book-binding end of the business, letting others do part of the work in producing the books we offer you, our customers and friends. We are focusing on e-books in this early part of 2009, in part because an e-book gets to you instantly. Still, all of us like to hold a book in our hands, so we are not abandoning print copies. We hope you enjoy our site, and that you come back often. If you have comments or suggestions, I promise to read every one and respond to as many as possible.
