In addition to writing, I love helping other people’s work be more of what it’s meant to be. During the last few years, I have noticed and been told that what I do with other people’s work goes beyond any definition of editing. I am following the advice of people whose work I’ve touched and changing my description from editor to coach. The coaching includes a sense of what a book is really about, what’s missing to truly communicate the author’s message and, often, places to promote that the author had not thought about.

Not that I want to give up editing, however, as there’s something very satisfying about going through a manuscript, knowing that my ability to proofread and to see details, inconsistencies, oddities or what’s missing in a fiction or nonfiction book, in a business or marketing piece, technical report or Web site, can help that work say more clearly and accurately what the author meant to convey.

If you have work in need of options or in need of proofreading, copyediting or content editing, please e-mail me to check on my availability. I’d love to be able to work with you.

Chas Ridley could teach editors how to edit. A thorough, yet compassionate proofreader and editor, she makes sure manuscripts conform to the basic Elements of Style while still staying true to the writer’s heart and never stepping on the toes of one’s Muse.

Darragha Foster

Chas Ridley edited my first published book, and working with her was an absolute joy. During the editing of my two books, she highlighted problems in a very positive way and helped improve my writing tremendously.
In addition to that, her optimism and encouragement made the chore of revising much more tolerable for me. I hope to work on another book with her very soon.

Andrea Wilder
author of Unbroken (2004) and Strong Enough (coming soon)
